The Vessel, a visionary creation by Naval Architect Sebastian Phillips, marks the inception of an innovative series of floating platforms. It embodies a unique experience, ingeniously combining elements from naval vessels, yachts, barges, ships, and even islands, yet carving out a category all its own.

This extraordinary vessel is meticulously constructed, beginning from the deck down, on a self-propelled inland construction barge.

Every facet of The Vessel’s design and construction has been personally overseen by Phillips and rigorously approved by the Coast Guard to not only meet but exceed standards for passenger safety, fire safety, structural integrity, stability, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Sebastian Phillips

The visionary behind The Vessel, brings a wealth of maritime heritage and expertise to the project. Born and raised in the historic Lower East Side of NYC, Phillips grew up immersed in the world of boats, influenced by his father's wooden boat-building heritage and his extensive experience as a mariner.

He spent his youth sailing and working on commercial vessels in New York Harbor, fostering a deep passion for naval architecture. With a formal education in naval architecture and a background in commercial ship design, Phillips recognized the potential to blend his love for maritime history with an innovative approach to waterfront hospitality. He has also made significant contributions to naval ship programs and established a successful consulting firm, providing ship design and construction management services to clients worldwide, including the U.S. Navy and leading commercial ship operators. Phillips' dedication to revitalizing waterfront spaces is evident in his earlier venture, Riverside, on the Miami River. Now, he returns to his maritime roots with The Vessel Miami, a floating venue designed to harmonize his diverse experiences in sailboats, passenger vessels, and naval logistics.
